A Prayer of Encouragement to Let You Know God is There…

In a day where overall morale is low and skepticism is high, it may be hard for some to see the good that can come out of going through.  And often when we feel that we need God the most, it seems like He’s nowhere to be found.  Abraham and Sarah endured years of sadness because of the desire for a child.  Elijah suffered through the desert for 40 days and 40 nights with nothing to eat and then had to hide himself in a cave from those who wanted to kill him.  Martha and Mary looked on in hopelessness as their brother Lazarus died while they were waiting for Jesus to come.

It is a natural assumption to feel that when things are going well, God loves us and that He is there.  But when things begin to fall apart, we take on the frame of mind that He has left us.  When we are healthy we say we are “blessed” but when we take ill we feel that God may be punishing us for something.  When large churches are flourishing and have more than enough support from donations and giving to meet the needs of the ministry, we say they are “successful”.  But we assume that churches that are small or struggling “must be doing something wrong”.

Why does God hide Himself?

Isaiah 45:15 says, “Truly You are God, who hides Yourself, O God of Israel, the Savior!”  Why would a God who has promised in His word to be with us in the time of trouble, hide Himself from us when we are at a breaking point? Well the answer to that is quite simple.  He does this so that He can SHOW Himself!   God hides in order to reveal Himself in weakness and suffering.  But it’s always where you least expect that He will.

II Corinthians 12:9-11 says, “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

I want to pronounce a blessing upon those that are at the end of their rope today and feel like calling it quits.  I want to you to believe that God is there even when you can’t feel Him.

“May God lift your spirits today and give you peace that transcends far beyond the despair that you are experiencing.  May God give you the insight to know that every situation is working for your good.  May He grant you the strength to STAND without bitterness and complaining.  May God give you the endurance to keep running even when you are in last place and feel like dropping out of the race.  May God grant you the wisdom to know that His presence is not just a feeling or emotion that one will experience, but His presence comes through believing in your spirit that He is with you.  May God open your heart and mind to know that in our weakest moments He is there and He will show Himself to be MIGHTY!  In Jesus Name – AMEN”

“When you are going through something hard and wonder where God is, always remember that the teacher is always quiet during a test” – Unknown
