Dare to Dream Again…!

This past weekend, I visited one of my favorite spots for Chinese food with a friend.  And as you would expect when we finished our meal, our server brought out two fortune cookies with the check.  I always get a kick out of reading them.  So without hesitation I cracked the cookie open and inside the message read:

“One of your most memorable dreams will come true”

I read it a few more times and I began to think.  The fortune inside the cookie stated a ‘memorable’ dream will come true.  So apparently this means there will be some dreams that will be forgotten within your lifetime.

Often life will take you through many loops and turns.  So much so that the dreams we were once passionate about, simply become ideas that we’ll get around to one day.  We get married, graduate from school, switch careers several times, move across the country, have a life changing accident, lose our parents or a child, get a divorce, or one of our children becomes incarcerated.  And in the midst of this chaos, the dreams that God has placed in our heart get forgotten and put on the back burner of our lives.

I’m sure that those of us reading this can think back to our childhood and recall being told that we could be anything we wanted to be if we believe in ourselves.  Our imaginations would run wild with dreams of being a pirate or a ballerina or a race car driver or the president of the United States all because we DARED TO DREAM!  But somewhere down the line as we grew older, many of the same people that told us we could be anything we wanted to be, now suggest to us to be more realistic!

But I want to challenge you today to DARE TO DREAM AGAIN!

Do MORE of what makes you happy today. Give yourself the freedom to dream.  Recapture that mindset that you had a child when you thought anything was possible!

  • Picture exactly what it is you want to do.
  • Write it down!  Writing it down will help that dream become more real to you.   List your objective and how you plan to reach it.
  • Practice reciting positive affirmations out loud daily that reaffirm who you are in Christ and what you can accomplish.
  • When challenges come, as they most certainly will, ask God for help.  But whatever you do, don’t let your gifts die inside of you!  Keep moving forward by any means necessary!

“Since our gifts vary depending on the grace poured out on each of us, it is important that we exercise the gifts we have been given.” Romans 12:6 (VOICE)

Pursuing your dreams will require you to always see the glass half full.  It may require you to change your environment to eliminate hindrances that come to impede your progress.  And most of all, it will definitely require you to press through!  But don’t be afraid to take risks and to change some things if they are causing a blockage in achieving your dreams!  This scripture is a reminder of that:

“It is pleasant to see dreams come true, but fools will not turn from evil to attain them.”  Proverbs 13:19 (NLT)

We all have 24 hours in every day.  That pans out to either 1,440 minutes or 86,400 seconds daily – which ever you prefer.  Just know that it’s solely up to YOU to make the most out the time you have here on earth.  Dream of having more!  Go back to school!  Write that book!  Start that business!  Launch that ministry!  Imagine yourself being everything God called you to be!  DARE TO DREAM!
