How to Trust God When Trusting God is Hard to Do…

Hey guys!  I’m so glad to be back at it this week.  But before I begin, I must confess that the last two weeks have been challenging.  I was facing a situation and I had absolutely NO CLUE as to how it would turn out.  There was a lot at stake and for this reason I found myself doing something that was completely out of order.  I tried to devise a plan as to how I could fix the problem!

Bad move, I know…

After I hit the inevitable brick wall, God gently reminded me that this thing called life only works when He is FULLY in control!  Not part-time, not half way, not Monday through Friday but FULLY and TOTALLY in control of everything in our lives at all times.  When things start falling apart, you can rest assured that it’s one of us, not God, that’s behind the wheel!

But because our God is loving and merciful, He used that period of frustration in my life as a teachable moment.  God let me know that for a believer, being at peace even in periods of uncertainty has to become a way of life!  Allow me to share four things God revealed to me that helped put my mind back at ease:

1.  He will never put you in a battle that you’re not equipped to fight.

“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” I Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

One definition of the word “equip” means to restore to proper working condition.  For example, in the Bible the disciples sat by the sea and “mended their nets”.  You equip something when you prepare it to be used for its proper purpose.  God will never call us to do something without equipping us to do it – He simply will not do it!  So no matter how hard the road is up ahead, God is already mending your nets so that you can be used for your proper purpose!

2.  He’s not going to make a fool out of you.

“No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame” Psalm 25:3 (NIV)

Now this is a BIGGIE!!  Why do we fear embarrassment if we trust God?  Because often the things that God will tell us to do make little to no sense at all when we try to figure it out with our finite wisdom!  But remember that God has said in His word that He will finish a work in us and He will not put His good name on the line by producing an outcome that is junk!  God does all things well, so don’t fret.  He won’t put you out there to be made ashamed.

3.  It’s for your good.

“It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes. The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.” Psalms 119:71-72

So many of us look at our situation and say “Lord, change my situation”.  But that is not God’s will.  Much more often, difficult situations come as a means of helping us to grow spiritually.  God brings difficulty into our lives to drive us closer to Him and increase our dependence on Him.  So when you are faced with trying times, you should pray “Lord, change ME so that I can face this difficult situation!”

4.  Sometimes before it gets better, it will get worse.  But keep this in mind – IT WILL GET BETTER!

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.” Acts 16:25

Paul was given the boot out of many cities as he sought to spread the Gospel.  He was beaten and locked in jail.  But just like Paul and Silas, it was at my midnight hour or my lowest point, that God gave me a revelation.  He reminded me that He will never leave me and He has never let me down in the past so why would He start now.  So even at the darkest points in my life, like Paul and Silas, I can still pray, sing and praise because my break though is coming!

Trust God even when its a struggle to do so.  With every defeat, know that you are that much closer to victory.  With every discouragement, become that much more determined.  With every door that is closed in your face, knock harder.

Don’t stop trusting God!
