What Do Your Vision and Your Legacy Have in Common…?

“Computer Mouse Inventor Dies”

That was the first headline I saw when I opened my CNN.com app this week on my iPad.  Needless to say, it grabbed my attention!  This article was about Mr. Douglas Engelbart, the gentleman who invented the computer mouse.  Before reading this article I had no knowledge of who he was.  But now every time I right-click I know who I have to thank for this convenience!  It never truly dawned on me as to the extent that Engelbart’s vision has had on modern technology until now!

The First Mouse and Its Haters!

The article talked about the first prototype which was actually carved out of wood and had a tiny red button and wheels.  In an interview with Engelbart early in his career, he said at the time it wasn’t easy to convince fellow scientists to follow his vision, but he persisted anyway!

How will you leave your mark on the world?

How will people know you were here?

How will you be remembered?

Never forget, YOU are the visionary for your life!  And its important that you posses a clear vision if you want to leave a positive legacy!

“I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint.  Write my answer plainly on tablets,so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.” Habakkuk 2:1-3 NLT

When you are seeking God you must withdraw from the business of life or get above it like the prophet Habakkuk did in this scripture.  It is also critical that your focus is drawn into God through studying the scriptures and constant prayer.

This scripture in Habakkuk clearly states that we need to write the vision so plainly that others that come after us to carry our legacy on will be able to execute it and carry it out correctly.  This could be your children, grandchildren, employees or even those that you work with in ministry.  God doesn’t give us a vision that will only benefit us personally in our short lifetime.  He gives us vision that will impact those around us for years to come!

Your VISION will become your LEGACY!  What Mr. Engelbart dreamt and created became what we will now remember him for forever!  Seek God for help to make your vision clear.  Write it down, in your heart AND on paper!  Then pursue it with all your might!  “We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.” – Chuck Palahniuk
