You Are NOT in This Thing By Yourself…!

It can become easy to fall prey to intense periods of loneliness.  Even being surrounded by people in a physical sense means nothing when you feel they don’t understand your plight.  As I pondered about why this may be, I have come to realize by going through trials of my own that often it happens because the circumstance that we are going through is so unique to us, we adopt the mindset that no one else could possibly understand what we are going through.  There is no way they could understand how I feel in this moment.  So we then feel alone in our struggle.  Although we will probably always experience these moments to some degree, we can combat these feelings by knowing with certainty – WE ARE NEVER ALONE!

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”  Deuteronomy 31:8 ESV

I ran across the classic poem ‘Footprints in the Sand’ and felt it would be good to share with you as a reminder that Christ is with us even during our lowest moments.  When you feel no one understands – HE IS THERE!  When it seems like everything is getting worse instead of getting better – HE IS THERE!  This poem is decades old and although there is much debate about the actual author of the poem, it still does not take away from its powerful message!  Never stop believing!  You are NOT in this thing by yourself – HE IS THERE!

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed

he was walking along the beach with the LORD.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.

For each scene he noticed two sets of

footprints in the sand: one belonging

to him, and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,

he looked back at the footprints in the sand.

He noticed that many times along the path of

his life there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very

lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he

questioned the LORD about it:

“LORD, you said that once I decided to follow

you, you’d walk with me all the way.

But I have noticed that during the most

troublesome times in my life,

there is only one set of footprints.

I don’t understand why when

I needed you most you would leave me.”

 The LORD replied:

“My son, my precious child,

I love you and I would never leave you.

During your times of trial and suffering,

when you see only one set of footprints,

it was then that I carried you.”
